[WATCH]- Fan Invades Pitch To Hug Rachin Ravindra During BAN vs NZ Match

During the Champions Trophy 2025 match between New Zealand and Bangladesh on Monday, February 24, in Rawalpindi, a fan ran onto the field to embrace New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra while he was batting. Images of the incident have since gone viral on social media.

Ravindra made his return to the national team after missing games following an injury sustained during the tri-series opener against Pakistan in Lahore on February 8, where he was struck on the forehead while attempting a catch. The 25-year-old justified his selection over the unwell Daryl Mitchell by scoring a match-winning century.

While Rachin Ravindra was batting alongside Tom Latham, a fan ran onto the field. However, security personnel quickly intervened and escorted the fan away.

Ravindra reflected on the forehead injury he sustained during the tri-series match in Lahore, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support he received. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he said (as quoted by the ICC):

“It was cool to come back and really enjoy my cricket again after that weird moment. In terms of the Black Caps setup, thanks to the coaches, (doctor) and physio, I’ve been able to come out of it reasonably well.”

“I’ve been showered with so much care and love and it really does make me seriously happy knowing how many people care about me and I’m very grateful to everyone who’s reached out and given their support, so thank you for that.”

New Zealand‘s five-wicket win over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi secured their semi-final spot alongside India, eliminating Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bangladesh opted to bat first but were bowled out for 236, with Michael Bracewell taking four wickets. The Black Caps will face India in their final group match on March 2 in Dubai.
