PCB Expresses Concern Over Pitch Invasion During NZ vs BAN Match In Rawalpindi

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed concern over a security lapse during Monday’s ICC Champions Trophy match between New Zealand and Bangladesh, where a spectator breached the field at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, according to ‘Dawn’.

The individual, a resident of Attock, was detained within the stadium and later charged at the New Town police station. However, on Tuesday, he was granted bail after submitting a surety bond of Rs. 50,000.

“The PCB has taken serious note of the security breach that occurred yesterday when a spectator entered the field of play. Ensuring the safety of players and officials remains our top priority,” the board said on Tuesday as quoted by Dawn.

“The individual involved was arrested and presented before a court of law today. In addition, he has been permanently banned from entering all cricket venues in Pakistan,” the statement added.

Looking back at the match between the two teams, New Zealand chased a modest target of 237, with Rachin playing a crucial role in keeping them on course. Delivering an explosive batting performance, he reached his fourth ODI century in just 95 balls, becoming New Zealand’s most successful batter in ICC ODI tournaments.

His century proved pivotal in knocking Bangladesh out of the tournament and ending defending champions Pakistan’s title defence in the group stage. New Zealand will now travel to Dubai to face India in their final Group A match on March 2 before advancing to the semi-finals.

India and New Zealand secure spots in the semi-finals

The 2025 Champions Trophy saw its first security breach, while India and New Zealand became the first semi-finalists after New Zealand’s five-wicket win over Bangladesh, powered by Rachin Ravindra’s century.

Meanwhile, Group B remains wide open after Australia and South Africa’s washout, leaving all teams in a must-win scenario. England and Afghanistan will face off in a virtual knockout match on February 26 in Lahore.
