Vidarbha batter Karun Nair revealed that before leaving the Karnataka team, he had expressed interest in playing for Kerala. The 33-year-old mentioned that he had discussions with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), but they did not materialize, leading him to join Vidarbha instead.
As he prepared to exit Karnataka in 2023, Karun explored his options and approached KCA for an opportunity. In an interview with Malayalam channel 24, he shared that after talks with Kerala failed to progress, he received an offer from Vidarbha.
Feeling the need to make a swift decision at that stage in his career, Karun Nair ultimately chose to join Vidarbha.
“There were discussions about it. When I was sure I was going to leave Karnataka, I was look at my options. There was some talk about it, but it didn’t go forward.”
“I had offered myself to KCA, but it didn’t go forward. At the same time, I got the offer from Vidarbha. I wasn’t in a situation to wait, as I wasn’t in a best spot. I wanted to clear my mind and that was only possible by joining a team. So I joined Vidarbha,” said Karun.

“Let’s wait and see”- Karun on a potential move to Kerala
Karun did not rule out the possibility of playing for Kerala in the future.
“You never know. If such a situation arises, we will see,” he remarked.
Since joining Vidarbha, Karun has experienced a resurgence in his career, cementing his reputation as one of the most prolific batters in Indian domestic cricket. The 33-year-old grabbed attention with a stellar performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year, amassing 779 runs in just 8 matches at an astonishing average of 389.50.
His remarkable form even made him a late contender for India’s Champions Trophy squad. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Kerala in Nagpur, Karun played a crucial knock of 86 in the first innings.
