Indian batting legend Virat Kohli’s close-knit friendship with New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was disclosed quite recently by Williamson himself. He spoke to the ICC about his cherished moments with Kohli when they both had initially featured in the Under-19 circuit, where their respective journeys had crossed. Since then, they’ve often been spotted together and, down the track, have developed a deep and abiding friendship away from sport.
Kohli and Williamson’s fraternity was called “really cool” and “much more than cricket” by the former. He elaborated that their bond lies in common experiences, respect for each other, and understanding one another’s personalities. “Somewhat aligned,” Williamson’s words, serve as the very essence of friendship that can withstand the pressures of international cricket.

New Zealand’s star batter Kane Williamson has now edged out former batter Nathan Astle in office to become his country’s fourth-highest run-getter in ODI cricket. This happened at the last group stage of his ICC Champions Trophy match against India at Dubai. Williamson posted the 81 runs on 120 balls, along with seven boundaries, to enter this kind of exclusive club.
His valiant effort, however, was cut short by a fine stumping performed by KL Rahul off the bowling of Axar Patel. That was a vital blow for New Zealand in its bid to chase down India’s score of 250 runs. Despite that, Williamson has added another feather to his already very impressive cap, clearly indicating that he is one of the exceptional batsmen in world cricket and that he is, in fact, a contributor to the grand legacy of New Zealand cricket.
