Temba Bavuma, captain of the South African (RSA) cricket team, said that they have plans to stop Kane Williamson from scoring big in the second semi-final of Champions Trophy 2025. Williamson has been one of the most consistent batsman for New Zealand over the years, especially when it comes to playing against South Africa. Bavuma said that Williamson has been a “thorn” for South Africa in the past in the ODI (One Day Internationals) format. While South Africa is a strong team, so is New Zealand. For the Kiwis, it is important that in such a crucial game, Williamson is at his best and delivers for the team. For the Proteas, it is the exact opposite; they want Williamson to be stopped before he is set at the crease.
South Africa lost against New Zealand just a month ago playing the tri-series in Pakistan. In this particular match, Williamson had scored 133 not out and helped New Zealand chase down a total of 305 in 48.4 overs.
In the pre-match conference, Bavuma said, “Yeah I mean he’s always been a thorn. We have plans against him. I obviously won’t release what those plans are. But I think, like any top player on any top side, you know that as a team you’ve got to raise your intensity and when the player comes in you’ve got to make sure that you execute your plans accordingly and make sure whatever opportunity that he gives you, you’re ready to take it.”
Semi Final is Just Another Cricket Game Says Bavuma
Temba Bavuma said that this semi final match against New Zealand is just yet another cricket game. The idea for South Africa is to approach the game normally as they would do so with any other ODI game.
“We’ll approach it as we normally would. We obviously want to play our best cricket, come tomorrow. We understand New Zealand will obviously come with a certain challenge and we’ll have to prepare accordingly, but I think Markram said it, it’s just another game, another game for us. Yes, it’s important, but we definitely won’t be blowing it out of proportion,” Bavuma said.
