India lifted the Champions Trophy (CT) 2025, playing the finals against New Zealand on Sunday. Online, many are of the view that the results were skewed in favour of India as they played in Dubai, whereas the other teams played in Pakistan. Wasim Akram, a former Pakistan Cricketer and a fast-bowling legend has quashed the opinion that India won because it played in Dubai. Akram said that India would have won if they played in Pakistan as well.
According to a SportsKeeda report, Akram said, “A lot of people talked about India playing all their matches in Dubai. Even if they played in Pakistan, their team would have won there too in the same fashion. They won the 2024 T20 World Cup without losing a game and now won the Champions Trophy without losing even one game; that shows the depth of their cricket and leadership.”
Wasim Akram Talks About Head Coach and Captain
Akram also talked about how there was pressure created to remove the captain and the Head Coach of India. Gautam Gambhir had recently taken over the team right after the T20i World Cup win in 2024. In the past year, there have been many moments where India has lost to their opponents, but these were not the high stakes ICC tournaments.

India Won Comprehensively
No one believed India would not win the finals. The same notion was shared when India was playing the WC (World Cup) 2023 and the T20i World in USA and West Indies in 2024. In the last three ICC (International Cricket Council) Tournaments, India has only lost one match. It was the finals against Australia in 2023. Otherwise, there has been no team which has defeated India in the ICC tournaments recently.
