Dwayne Bravo, the legendary Caribbean all-rounder, has solidified his relationship with the Knight Riders franchise, extending his role across multiple teams globally. Trinbago, the first overseas acquisition by an IPL franchise, won four CPL titles under Bravo’s leadership. His transition into a coaching role within the Knight Riders framework is a natural progression, further cementing his connection with the franchise. After Gautam Gambhir stepped down to take up the head coach role for the Indian national team, Bravo was appointed as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor for IPL 2025.
Leaving his position as Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) bowling coach, Bravo embraced this new challenge and expressed immense gratitude toward Shah Rukh Khan for investing in his hometown franchise, which was rebranded from Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel to Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015.
KKR’s Retention Strategy for IPL 2025
Following their IPL 2024 title victory, Kolkata Knight Riders focused on retaining their core squad for the upcoming season. The franchise utilized all six retention slots to secure key players, ensuring continuity and stability. Among the retained stars were mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and emerging pacer Harshit Rana.
Chakaravarthy, who has become a crucial asset for the team, was retained for INR 12 crore, while Rana, an uncapped player, was retained for INR 4 crore. Both players played pivotal roles in Team India’s victorious 2025 Champions Trophy campaign. Chakaravarthy emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker for India, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most formidable spinners in the league. The strong performance of these players on the international stage has bolstered KKR’s confidence as they prepare to defend their IPL title.
