Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received an encouraging update regarding fast bowler Mayank Yadav’s recovery. The young pacer has started bowling again at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), offering hope that he may return to the IPL 2025 season.
However, he is unlikely to be available at the start of the tournament, where LSG is set to face Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Vizag. According to a source close to Mayank, he is progressing well and is expected to play in the IPL within a few weeks. Despite LSG’s request to oversee his rehabilitation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has retained full control since Mayank is now a contracted player.
Impressive Start to His Career Before Injury
Mayank Yadav made a remarkable debut in the IPL last season, playing four matches and securing seven wickets at an impressive average of 12.14. Unfortunately, his campaign was cut short due to injury. His performance, however, caught the attention of BCCI selectors, leading to his debut for India in a home series against Bangladesh in October.
Mayank featured in all three matches, claiming four wickets with an economical bowling rate of 6.91. His early success positioned him as a promising fast bowler for both LSG and the Indian national team.
LSG Exploring Backup Options
With Mayank’s availability uncertain for the beginning of the IPL 2025 season, LSG is considering alternatives to strengthen their squad. India all-rounder Shardul Thakur was seen training with the team on Sunday, raising speculation that he may be signed as a backup option.
Thakur, who remained unsold in the IPL mega auction last November, could bring valuable experience to the squad. While LSG remains optimistic about Mayank’s return, they may need additional reinforcements to ensure a strong start to the season.
