Yet to play his first IPL match, the Sri Lankan all-rounder was bought by SRH for INR 75 lakhs in the 2025 mega-auction. The 26-year-old has represented Sri Lanka in 23 T20Is, accumulating 381 runs with two half-centuries and claiming two wickets.
Kamindu Mendis also has valuable experience from 39 games in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), where he has scored 782 runs, including five fifties, and picked up eight wickets.
SRH recorded the second-highest total in IPL history in their 2025 season opener
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) kicked off their 2025 IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 23 in Hyderabad. Sent in to bat, SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 45 runs in just 20 balls before Abhishek fell for 24 off 11.
Head then partnered with Ishan Kishan, building a rapid 85-run stand in 39 balls. Head scored a blistering 67 off 31, while Ishan carried on the momentum. Cameos from Nitish Kumar Reddy (30 off 15) and Heinrich Klaasen (34 off 14) boosted SRH’s total.
Ishan reached his maiden IPL century in just 45 balls, finishing unbeaten on 106 off 47 as SRH posted a massive 286/6—the second-highest total in IPL history. Chasing 287, RR lost early wickets, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (1), Riyan Parag (4), and Nitish Rana (11) departing cheaply.
Sanju Samson (66 off 37) and Dhruv Jurel (70 off 35) fought back, but the target remained out of reach. Late contributions from Shimron Hetmyer (42 off 23) and Shubham Dubey (34* off 11) weren’t enough, as RR finished at 242/6, losing by 44 runs.
