IPL 2025: [WATCH] Jofra Archer Rattles Punjab Kings With A Fiery Opening Spell

The Rajasthan Royals’ speedster Jofra Archer delivered a blistering start with the ball against the Punjab Kings in the 18th match of IPL 2025, held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. After posting an imposing 205-run total on the board, Archer ignited the Royals’ defense with an immediate breakthrough.

The very first ball of the Punjab innings saw Priyansh Arya fall victim to Archer’s precision. Bowling a back-of-a-length delivery that nipped away slightly, Archer squared up Arya, who failed to move his feet and was clean bowled as the ball clipped the top of off-stump.

Shreyas Iyer Fights Back but Falls to Archer’s Brilliance

Following Arya’s dismissal, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer came in with intent. He attempted to shift the momentum by striking two crisp boundaries off Archer, showing signs of a counterattack. However, Archer quickly regained control. He responded with a fuller delivery aimed at the stumps.

Iyer tried to play an aggressive shot, backing away for a slog, but misjudged the pace and line. The ball crashed into the stumps, sending Iyer back to the pavilion for 10 runs off just 5 balls. Archer’s celebration captured the moment—he sprinted to his left, fired up, knowing he had dismantled Punjab’s top order.

Rajasthan Royals Tighten Their Grip on the Match

Archer’s double strike left Punjab Kings struggling at 11/2 early in the chase. Things worsened for the Shreyas Iyer-led side as Marcus Stoinis (1) and Prabhsimran Singh (17) also departed soon after, reducing the team to 43/4. Rajasthan Royals had clearly taken command of the game.

Earlier, their batting had laid a solid foundation with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a fluent 67, Sanju Samson contributing 38, and Riyan Parag adding an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls. Shimron Hetmyer’s quickfire 20* ensured the Royals reached a competitive 205. With Archer’s early heroics and the batting unit firing in sync, the Rajasthan Royals looked poised for a dominant victory in the high-scoring contest.
