IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell Fined For IPL Code Of Conduct Breach In CSK Match

The BCCI took stern action against Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) batter Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.

Despite the incident, Punjab secured an 18-run win, maintaining their position in the top four of the IPL 2025 standings, while Chennai slid to ninth after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat. Glenn Maxwell was penalised 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL media release read.

Article 2.2 of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials pertains to “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.”

“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” reads the rule.

Priyansh Arya Shines in PBKS Victory

Punjab found a new match-winner on Tuesday in young opener Priyansh Arya, who had made a name for himself in last year’s Delhi Premier League. Arya smashed his first IPL century, scoring a blistering 103 off just 42 deliveries, including seven boundaries and nine sixes, to power Punjab to a total of 219 for six.

In response, Chennai’s chase fell short despite opener Devon Conway retiring out after a solid 69 off 49 balls. Shivam Dube added 36, while Rachin Ravindra chipped in with 42. MS Dhoni provided a late spark with a quickfire 27 off 12 balls, but it wasn’t enough as CSK slipped to their fourth straight defeat of the season.
