Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may be struggling in IPL 2025, but CEO Kasi Viswanathan remains hopeful about a turnaround, led by none other than “Thala” MS Dhoni. Despite the team sitting at the bottom of the table after eight games, Viswanathan believes Dhoni’s leadership can inspire a comeback.
Speaking at an event in Chennai, he admitted that CSK hasn’t played good cricket this season but emphasized that the team has bounced back from tough situations before. “With someone like Thala at the helm, it’s only a question of time before we come back,” he said, referencing the experience and composure Dhoni brings to the squad.
Mathematical Hope for Playoffs Still Alive
CSK’s path to the playoffs is tough but not impossible. They need to win all of their remaining six games to reach 16 points, the usual cutoff for playoff qualification. While 14 points could still keep their hopes alive, the challenge is steep with several teams already above 10 points. Dhoni, who took over captaincy just three matches ago, has overseen one win and two losses.
Their most recent game ended in a disappointing nine-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians, where both batting and bowling failed to make an impact. However, the franchise is looking ahead to upcoming matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 and Punjab Kings on April 30 as crucial opportunities.

Drawing Inspiration from the Past
Viswanathan also drew inspiration from CSK’s title-winning season in 2010. “We lost five games in a row and went on to win the cup. That was the first year we won the title,” he recalled. The CEO emphasized that the team is full of committed players, such as Shivam Dube, who has consistently performed well.
He remains confident that with the right mindset and leadership, CSK can still produce strong performances. With Dhoni’s steady hand guiding the squad, the team is determined to defy the odds and script another comeback story. As the league stage intensifies, CSK fans will be watching closely to see if history repeats itself.
