A verbal spat developed between New Zealand’s Colin Munro and Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed during the Pakistan Super League encounter between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United. The incident happened in the 10th over of the Islamabad United innings, wherein Munro accused Iftikhar Ahmed of throwing the ball instead of bowling it.

Iftikhar Ahmed was charging in to bowl a short delivery at the feet of Munro, who blocked it neatly before gesturing to the umpires and then presumably mimicking Ahmed’s action in such a way as to imply that he was chucking. Munro perfectly mimicked Ahmed’s action, bent elbow and all, and the bowler was very annoyed.

Iftikhar Ahmed then walked towards the umpire to argue, while some of his players and the Pakistan captain, Mohammad Rizwan, who plays for Multan Sultans, were seen getting involved as well. Rizwan was seen confronting Munro, which increased the tension on the field. The umpires rushed in to cool things down and told both teams to resume playing. At the time, Islamabad United had scored 103 runs for the loss of one wicket, and Munro had struck 40 runs off 23 balls.

Colin Munro and Iftikhar Ahmed’s Confrontation in Multan Sultans vs Islamabad United Match

The incident did not distract Islamabad United from the victory path, which they eventually won by seven wickets. After scoring a decent 45 off 28 balls, he was dismissed toward the end by Iftikhar Ahmed. Iftikhar Ahmed could still finish the match well, as he bagged great bowling figures of 2 overs for 20 runs.

There was quite a tussle over that act, and both parties had much emotion running within them. While Munro thought himself right to approach the umpires about it, Iftikhar Ahmed and his team were offended at Munro’s calling. The whole situation was then further aggravated by Mohammad Rizwan, who, along with Munro, was just about to kick off the fight Iftikhar and his friends had started had it not been for the umpires stepping in quickly.

Accusations of throwing have always been a sensitive topic in cricket, as players would know this is one area to take caution against. The incident certainly exposed the ruthless nature of the game and the need for players to respect the presence of sportsmanship on the field. Despite the scandal preceding their match, United’s victory was a true reflection of team performance.

So Islamabad United chased the target of 169 runs with ease. The victory was a showcase of the depth of batting in Islamabad United, with Munro being the main driver behind their win.
