The official social media account of England’s top domestic red-ball competition, the County Championship, has seemingly mocked Indian batting star Virat Kohli following reports of his possible retirement from Test cricket.
Kohli is said to have informed the BCCI about his plans to step away from the longest format ahead of India’s tour of England, which begins on June 20. This revelation comes shortly after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from Test cricket.
As news of Kohli’s decision began circulating online, the County Championship posted a cheeky video featuring England bowlers dismantling stumps in the ongoing season, accompanied by the caption: “We don’t blame you Virat.”

Virat Kohli has had a modest Test record in England, scoring 1,096 runs in 17 matches at an average of 33.21, with two centuries. His best showing came in the 2018 tour, where he topped the charts with 593 runs at 59.30 and was named Player of the Series.
Stat Check: Kohli’s Test Performance in the Post-2020 Era
Virat Kohli’s Test performance has declined steadily since 2020. In this period, he has scored 2,028 runs in 39 Tests (69 innings) at an average of 30.72, with three centuries and nine half-centuries. His struggles have continued—since 2024, he has managed 440 runs from 11 matches (21 innings), averaging 23.15, with one century and one fifty.
This prolonged lean patch has significantly impacted his overall Test average, which has dropped from an impressive 54.97 in 2019 to 46.85 now. Faced with this downturn and the inability to regain his prime form, Kohli is reportedly considering retirement from the longest format.
However, a senior official from the BCCI has reached out to Kohli, encouraging him to reconsider. Whether the former Indian captain will reverse his decision and make himself available for the crucial England tour remains uncertain
