Maxwell has been dropped from Australia”s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series: Glenn Maxwell for the first time since his debut in 2012 has been ruled out from limited-overs squad altogether. Following a poor run from last 10 matches in which he averaged less than 10 with the bat this decision was around the corner. The selectors have finally made a mind to give up on him at least for sometime.
“As far as I am concerned, he has had a lot of chances. It got to that stage – we couldn”t go on any longer. Glenn has too many games where he doesn”t contribute with the bat,” Rod Marsh, chairman of selectors said. Therefore the message from the selectors is crystal clear – Perform or Perish !
Almost a year before Maxwell was all set to be a part of the Test squad for the tour of Bangladesh, but as of now his future seems to be in some sort of dilemma. The selection committee chairman Marsh also stated that the panel wanted the opportunity to pick Maxwell for all formats, but they needed him to amalgamate consistency to his destructive talent.
Earlier this year, Maxwell denied that he needed to take some time off and concentrate more on his batting, in the manner Steven Smith did to regain his Test spot.
As we all know, Glenn is amazing in the field, a decent bowler, and of course when he is at his best with the bat he can win matches single-handedly. Australian cricket needs him to do well and he has to somehow get through this rough phase and go guns blazing once again.
Among other changes Shaun Marsh has sealed his place in the squad replacing Travis Head after missing the West Indies series due to the birth of his first child.
