Indian Spinner Makes Bold Statement Ahead Of ENG vs IND 2025 1st Test

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav has expressed confidence in contributing with the bat during the upcoming five-Test series against England. India’s lower order has often been criticised for lacking resistance, with the tail being seen as a weak point for opposition bowlers to exploit.

With the fast bowlers not offering consistent support with the bat, Kuldeep is expected to shoulder some responsibility in the lower order. The left-hander has recently shown improvement with the bat, particularly in red-ball cricket.

He played a vital 28 in the fourth Test in Ranchi, facing 131 balls in an eighth-wicket stand with Dhruv Jurel after a collapse. Kuldeep followed it up with 30 in the final Test in Dharamshala, finishing the series with an average of 19.40 — impressive for a lower-order batter. The spinner said he’s confident in his defence and aims to provide useful runs.

“My technique is good for red-ball batting, and I am confident in my defence. I played well with the bat in the last series against England, so I hope I can add few extra runs in the end for the team in England,” Kuldeep Yadav said in an interview with RevSportz.

“There’s plenty of time in Test cricket, so I would hope to at least stay there and not lose my wicket. I had a good stint in the last series against England, so I’m keeping my preparation in place. If I have to bat, then I should be able to handle the pressure of the first couple of overs and stick around after that as well,” he added.

“England series is crucial for us” – Kuldeep Yadav on India’s upcoming tour

Kuldeep Yadav last played red-ball cricket in the opening Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. He was then replaced by Washington Sundar and later ruled out due to a sports hernia, which kept him out of the Border-Gavaskar series.

He made his comeback during the white-ball leg in early 2025, appearing in the home series against England and playing a key role in India’s victorious 2025 Champions Trophy campaign.

“It feels good whenever you make a comeback into the Test team. I had missed the Australia series, I was injured that time, it took a couple of months after surgery and recovery to come back. The England series is very important, considering how the conditions are there, hopefully everything goes well,” Kuldeep Yadav said.
