On Day 5 of the opening Test between England and India at Headingley, Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna removed Ollie Pope for just eight runs. The dismissal came in the 45th over when Krishna bowled a sharp inswinger that slipped between Pope’s bat and pad, crashing into the leg stump.

The breakthrough was crucial for India, especially as Pope had notched a century in the first innings. It also marked Krishna’s second quick success, having earlier sent back Zak Crawley for 65 in the 43rd over—India’s first wicket of England’s second innings.

Prasidh Krishna has had an inconsistent outing in the match, showing moments of effectiveness but struggling with control. While he has posed a threat at times, he has also frequently offered scoring opportunities, with boundary balls never too far apart. This inconsistency has made it difficult for India to maintain continuous pressure on the English batters across both innings.

England Build Steady Base In Fourth-Innings Chase Of 371 Against India

The hosts resumed Day 5 on 21 without loss, with openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett beginning the challenging pursuit of 371 runs. The duo initially tackled a probing spell, as the Indian bowlers kept things tight with consistent lines and lengths.

However, once the ball lost its early movement and India’s attack began to fade, the scoring pace increased. Boundaries came more frequently, and the pressure began to shift. Shubman Gill, leading India for the first time, found himself rotating bowlers in search of a breakthrough.

Duckett went on to complete a well-crafted century, keeping the scoreboard ticking and steadily cutting into the target. At the time of reporting, England had reached 238 for 2 in 51 overs, with Duckett continuing confidently and Joe Root providing support at the other end.
