Moeen Ali Joins England As Bowling Consultant For 2nd Test At Edgbaston

In a notable move, former England cricketer Moeen Ali has joined the national team as a consultant to assist with preparations for the second Test. The 38-year-old is currently with the squad in Edgbaston, Birmingham, as part of the support staff. As reported by Will Macpherson of The Telegraph, Moeen has taken up a coaching consultancy position with the team.

“England have been joined at Edgbaston for training today by Moeen Ali, in a coaching consultancy role,” tweeted Macpherson.

England delivered a solid bowling display in the first Test, but Shoaib Bashir struggled, conceding runs all over the field. This likely prompted the ECB to bring in Moeen Ali to help Bashir refine his line and develop strategies to challenge the Indian batters.

Moeen Ali Follows Stuart Broad’s Path In Coaching Role

Interestingly, Moeen Ali is taking a similar path to his former England teammate Stuart Broad, who recently worked as a bowling consultant for South Africa during the WTC final against Australia. Broad offered valuable insights to the South African bowlers, especially about conditions at Lord’s, a ground where he has had great success.

His brief involvement proved fruitful, with South Africa winning their first ICC trophy in 27 years. When asked about a long-term coaching role, Broad clarified he was only available for that one match. Likewise, Moeen is expected to serve as a consultant for just the second Test and will exit the squad before the third.
