Young Indian cricketer Musheer Khan delivered a spectacular all-round performance for the Mumbai development squad during their UK tour. Facing Nottinghamshire’s second XI, Musheer showcased his batting and bowling prowess, leaving a significant mark on the match.
Opening the innings, the left-hander scored a commanding 123 runs off 149 balls, helping Mumbai post a solid total. His century, coupled with Manan Bhatt’s ton, powered Mumbai to a massive 448 in the first innings.
Musheer’s performance didn’t stop with the bat—he later tormented the opposition with the ball, taking six wickets for just 31 runs in 8.2 overs. Nottinghamshire were bundled out for 210, trailing by a big margin and forced to follow on. At the end of Day 2, they were struggling at 90/3, still 151 runs behind.
A Promising Young Talent
Musheer, the younger brother of Indian Test player Sarfaraz Khan, has been turning heads in Indian domestic cricket. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2022 as a teenager and quickly established himself as a dependable player. He gained wider recognition during the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup, where he finished as the second-highest run-scorer and struck two centuries.
After the tournament, Musheer continued his impressive run in the Ranji Trophy. He scored a double century in just his fourth first-class game and followed it up with a century in the final. That knock made him the youngest Mumbai batter to hit a century in a Ranji Trophy final, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record. His contributions played a vital role in Mumbai clinching their 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
Overcoming Setbacks
Despite his meteoric rise, Musheer’s journey has not been without challenges. In September last year, he was involved in a car accident that left him with a neck fracture. The injury forced him to take a break from the game at a crucial point in his career.
However, he has returned stronger, as evident in his recent performance in England. His all-round heroics against Nottinghamshire highlight his resilience and potential as a future star for India. With his talent and determination, Musheer Khan is fast emerging as one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket.
