Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Gavaskar’s 49-Year-Old Test Record On Day 3 At Edgbaston

On Day 3 of the second Test between England and India, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal became the fastest Indian to reach 2000 runs in Test cricket. The 23-year-old reached the milestone in his 21st match, surpassing the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who had achieved the feat in his 23rd Test against the West Indies in Trinidad back in 1976.

Jaiswal reached the 2000-run mark with a boundary off Brydon Carse in the sixth over at Edgbaston. However, he was dismissed shortly after, falling lbw to Josh Tongue for 28 in the eighth over of the innings. Since making his Test debut in July 2023 with a century against the West Indies, Jaiswal has shown impressive form.

On his first tour of England, he started strongly with a hundred in Leeds and followed it up with a solid 87 in the first innings at Edgbaston.

Siraj’s 6/70 Puts India In Command With 180-Run Lead At Edgbaston

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj delivered a superb performance, picking up 6 wickets for 70 runs to help dismiss England for 407 in their first innings at Edgbaston. His efforts gave India a substantial first-innings lead of 180 runs, placing them in a strong position to control the match and push for a possible win on Day 4.

England’s innings was largely rebuilt through a massive 303-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. Brook scored a determined 158 before getting out, while Smith remained unbeaten on 184, helping the hosts recover from an unstable 84/5 to a competitive total.

In response, India’s openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul started aggressively, hitting multiple boundaries in quick time. However, Jaiswal was dismissed for 28 by Josh Tongue. At stumps, India were 63/1 after 12 overs, extending their overall lead to 243 runs with nine wickets still in hand.
