New Zealand stalwart Ross Taylor has hinted about his retirement saying he is not sure about his participation in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in India. Taylor was in good shape to play this year’s edition but ICC had to postpone owing to COVID-19 outbreak.

The 36-year-old Taylor has been the mainstay of New Zealand’s batting for over a decade. He has been a top performer across all the three formats. Ross Taylor last played during the ODI series against Australia in March before the organisers had to call off the series owing to COVID-19.

Not sure of playing 2021 T20 World Cup – Ross Taylor

Taylor looked in the fine form scoring centuries and playing match-winning knocks against India earlier this year. But with age settling in, the Wellington-born cricketer understands the importance of staying fit. He also quoted the current period as strange saying he has not been out of cricket this long since high school.

“Oh! Not sure. As you get older, things slow down a little bit, but your training and experience and your mind become even more important,” Taylor said to ESPNcricinfo.

“Yeah, it has been a strange time all around. I haven’t gone this long without playing any cricket since I was in high school. So, yeah obviously isolation and all those other things are a little bit strange, but it is what it is,” he stated.

Ross Taylor’s next assignment will be in the Caribbean Premier League, when the tournament starts from August 18. He will represent Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2020 edition. Taylor said everyone will be nervous playing in the CPL playing after a long time.

“You know it’s going to be strange for everybody at the CPL. Nobody has played international cricket for a while, so everyone is going to be nervous, I’m sure. So, training and early games are very important. The atmosphere in Twenty20 cricket is a lot of what you play and we get the best crowds in that format,” Taylor added.
