Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has landed in a controversy after being accused of assault and issuing threats to a childhood friend. The complaint was filed by Sifatur Rahman Sourave, and the case has been officially registered at the Mirpur Model Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Sajjadur Rahman stated that the alleged incident occurred in front of the Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur on a Sunday.
According to the complaint, Taskin called Sifatur to the location and physically attacked him. The matter has drawn significant media attention, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to address the issue. However, they are refraining from taking immediate action, citing the need for a full investigation.
BCB’s Neutral Stand on the Situation
The BCB has clarified that it will not act based solely on the complaint. BCB Media Committee Chairman Iftekhar Ahmed commented on the matter, stating, “Let Taskin be proven guilty first. There has been a case and it will be followed by an investigation. It is beyond the cricket board now. Taskin says that he is not involved in it.”
“Now police will investigate it as there has been a GD. There will be an outcome and let’s wait for that.” The cricket board has thus distanced itself from the incident until a legal conclusion is reached. Taskin Ahmed has denied any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the authorities while maintaining his innocence.
Taskin Ahmed Breaks Silence and Defends Himself
Taskin Ahmed responded to the accusations by issuing a statement on social media, urging fans and the public not to believe unverified reports. He wrote, “I request everyone, please don’t be misled by rumours: A lot is being said about an incident where I supposedly raised my hand against a childhood friend. I believe you shouldn’t listen to such rumours or let others be misled by them. This is neither respectful for me, my family, nor my friend.”
He further explained that the situation was a private matter between him and his friend that had unfortunately become public. According to him, the portrayal of the incident was misleading and not based on facts. He concluded by saying, “What happened has been discussed between me and my friend. It should never have reached this point. I just want to say one thing – the matter is different, and the reality is not what’s being portrayed. The claims are false, fabricated, and deliberately misleading.” Taskin appealed to the public to trust the truth, stating, “I hope you will stand with the truth – because truth is never false.”
