Yuzvendra Chahal, known for his calm demeanor on the cricket field, recently broke his silence on his much-discussed separation from social media influencer and choreographer Dhanashree Verma. The couple, once widely adored on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, kept their divorce proceedings private for a long time.
Chahal revealed that while the public saw them interacting normally, the separation process had already begun. They decided to keep it quiet until everything was finalized legally and emotionally. This silence, he said, was a conscious decision out of mutual respect.
“I Never Cheated”
Dismissing any allegations of infidelity, Chahal asserted firmly that he had always been loyal in the relationship. He emphasized that cheating had never crossed his mind and that he maintained a high level of respect for his then-wife.
The leg-spinner described himself as a deeply loyal person who believes in the sanctity of marriage. He stated that his values do not permit dishonesty or betrayal in any form, and he wanted to clear the air regarding the rumors that had circulated during and after the breakup.
Battling Depression and Suicidal Thoughts
Perhaps the most heart-wrenching part of Chahal’s revelation was his struggle with mental health. After the divorce, he found himself in a dark place, emotionally shattered and unable to cope with the reality of his personal life falling apart. He admitted to sleeping only two to three hours a night and constantly breaking down in tears.
There were moments when he questioned whether life was worth continuing, as suicidal thoughts crept into his mind during a 40- to 45-day period when he took a break from cricket. The cricketer credited his close friends, including RJ Mahvash, for helping him navigate through that painful chapter. Their support became a lifeline when he needed it the most.
Chahal’s candid confession sheds light on the mental health challenges athletes face behind their public personas. His story is a reminder that even those who appear strong and composed on the outside may be fighting silent battles within. Through his words, Chahal not only seeks understanding but also hopes to encourage others facing similar struggles to seek help and not suffer in silence.
