England wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler was given the challenge of blind-ranking wicket-keepers from various eras ahead of the upcoming home white-ball series against South Africa. He was asked to order players including Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, and himself, without knowing the next name in advance.
Buttler immediately ranked Rishabh Pant at the top, followed by Quinton de Kock at No. 2. Legendary Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni was placed at No. 4, and when it came to AB de Villiers, Buttler admitted he had completely misjudged the ranking, slotting the South African star at No. 3. He finished the list by placing himself at the bottom.

Buttler has previously expressed that he is a huge admirer of MS Dhoni and even received Dhoni’s jersey following a match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2020. The game also marked Dhoni’s 200th appearance in the tournament.
“MS is quite an amazing cricketer. I love the fact how he leaves people thinking, it left me intrigued. He has quite an amazing thinking. What is he actually thinking about? Why is he not riding on the emotions of the game. He left people guessing.”
“I know I was intrigued by that. I love the way he does things because they make sense. He doesn’t worry much about what it looks like (to others),” Buttler had said in an interview with Cricbuzz (via Times Now).
Jos Buttler Shines With 213 Runs In 2025 Hundred
Playing under Phil Salt in the 2025 Hundred, Jos Buttler has delivered a solid performance. He currently ranks as the eighth-highest run-scorer as the tournament approaches its crucial stage, although his team faces the prospect of finishing at the bottom—following up on a disappointing 2024 campaign.
Despite stepping down from captaincy after a poor showing in the 2025 Champions Trophy, the wicket-keeper batter remains a key figure in England’s white-ball squad. England will begin their preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup with a home series against South Africa in September 2025, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.
