Ishan Kishan is preparing for a fresh comeback, not with the Indian national side but by leading his state team. Having been away from India’s squad for almost two years, he now gets an opportunity to return to the spotlight. The wicketkeeper-batter has been entrusted with the captaincy of Jharkhand for the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season.
The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) selection committee confirmed the decision on September 27, giving Kishan a platform to re-establish himself. His recent journey has been challenging. Despite showing promise in IPL 2025, he struggled to keep up his form. In June, he moved to England to represent Nottinghamshire in the County Championship, where he registered two fine half-centuries.
Unfortunately, an untimely injury cut short his progress, ruling him out of India’s tour of England and forcing him to miss the Duleep Trophy, where he had been named East Zone captain.

Now fully fit, Ishan Kishan is eager to make his return, leading the Jharkhand side in the upcoming Ranji Trophy. He will also serve as the team’s primary wicketkeeper, with Virat Singh appointed as his deputy for India’s top red-ball competition.
The 16-member squad includes exciting talents such as spin all-rounder Anukul Roy, wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra, and Aryaman Singh. Jharkhand will begin their Ranji Trophy campaign on October 15, facing a strong Tamil Nadu team in the group stage.
