Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has officially joined Sharjah Warriorz for the fourth season of the International League T20 (ILT20). He steps in as a replacement for Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis, adding his vast experience to a squad coached by former South African player JP Duminy.
Expressing his delight, Karthik stated, “I am very excited to be joining the Sharjah Warriorz team for the DP World ILT20 tournament. I know they are a young team, aspiring to do some special things, and I am happy to be here. Sharjah is also one of those iconic stadiums one always wants to play at. And to be a part of the franchise Sharjah Warriorz, makes a dream come true.” His addition is expected to bring both skill and leadership to the young team, giving them a stronger edge for the tournament.
Expanding His T20 Journey
For Karthik, this move is a continuation of his growing T20 career across various leagues. Earlier in the year, he represented Paarl Royals in the SA20, where he scored 97 runs in six innings. Apart from being an active cricketer, Karthik is also involved in shaping the next generation of players.
He is part of the support staff of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the IPL 2025 champions, where he works as the batting coach. At RCB, he has closely guided big-hitting Australian Tim David, who interestingly is also a part of the Sharjah Warriorz setup. This connection is likely to create a strong bond within the squad, as Karthik brings both his playing skills and coaching insights into the mix.

Warriorz head coach Duminy welcomed Dinesh Karthik with high praise, saying, “Dinesh Karthik is one of the most experienced hands and an incredibly innovative mind when it comes to T20 cricket, and I am chuffed to have him in our corner for the upcoming edition of the DP World ILT20. The whole world has seen what he is capable of with the bat, and his explosive batting, dynamic personality, and immense experience will surely benefit the younger players significantly during the course of the tournament.”
Karthik’s career speaks volumes about his contribution to the shorter format of the game. With over two decades in professional cricket, he has featured in 412 T20 matches, scoring 7,437 runs, which include 35 fifties at an impressive strike-rate of 136.66. For the Indian team, he played 60 T20Is, scoring 686 runs at a strike-rate of 142.61. His presence in the Warriorz squad is expected to bring both stability and flair, making him a valuable addition ahead of the upcoming season.
