During the 2025 World Cup match against Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the Pakistani women cricketer Nashra Sandhu had a flash of brain fade. She was dismissed in a strange way, whereby she planted a blow on the stumps with her bat and was declared hit wicket. An unusual dismissal indeed and one that left the 27-year-old visibly crestfallen.

Nashra is an expert slow left-arm orthodox bowler who has been integral to Pakistan’s bowling attack. She made her Women’s ODI debut against South Africa in 2017 and has since played in several major tournaments, including the ICC Women’s World Cup.

During the unusual dismissal episode, the World Cup match between Bangladesh and Pakistan was being played at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sandhu attempted to jab at the ball in the 35th over, which was being bowled by Shorna Akter, but she left it, and the back swing of her bat hit the stumps, resulting in a hit wicket dismissal. This weird dismissal visibly disappointed the 27-year-old player.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana chose to bat first, but her side soon found things difficult and lost their first two batters, Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin, both for golden ducks in the very first over. At this stage, Bangladesh had them at 2 for 2. With Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim putting together a 42-run partnership for some solace, Shamim highest with 23 runs for Pakistan.

Shorna Akter’s bowling performance was tearful for Pakistan, with 3/5 off her 3.3 overs, which made much contribution to Pakistan’s downfall. Marufa and Nahida Akter just added two wickets each. Pakistan batted for just 38.3 overs.

Bangladesh bowlers treated Pakistan’s batting line-up like a meek side and didn’t allow them to get a rhythm going. The match had shown the strength of Bangladesh bowling, courtesy of a sublime spell by Shorna Akter.
