KL Rahul Achieves A Historic Feat In Ahmedabad Test

KL Rahul etched his name into cricket’s history books with a rare and peculiar feat during the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. The Indian batter became the first player in 148 years of Test cricket to be dismissed for exactly 100 on two different occasions within the same calendar year.

Rahul achieved this milestone while scoring his 11th Test century on Day 2 of the match, which also marked his second Test hundred at home. However, similar to his previous century at Lord’s against England in July, he was dismissed immediately after reaching the three-figure mark.

Before Rahul, only six players in Test history had been dismissed twice for 100, but none had done so twice in a single year. His achievement adds another layer to a stellar 2025 season, where he has re-established himself as one of India’s most reliable batters.

England Form Boosts Confidence in Home Conditions

KL Rahul’s resurgence in Test cricket has been one of the standout stories of the year. His most notable performance came earlier in the season during the five-match Test series against England, where he finished as the third-highest run-getter with 532 runs from 10 innings at an impressive average of 53.20.

That run included two centuries and two fifties, reflecting his consistency and maturity as a top-order batter. After his century against the West Indies, Rahul opened up about how playing in varied conditions has contributed to his confidence and form.

Rahul explained :

“Really enjoyed my batting. Playing in different conditions. England was fun. Obviously, getting runs there gives you a lot of confidence, and coming into this game with some runs behind me also helped. Feeling fresher after a longish break after the series. Yeah, I really enjoyed being back. (Were you nervous?) No, not really.”

He added :

“Because I just played a game last week (for India A). So yeah, I was a bit nervous playing there because I haven’t been on the field for a good 5-6 weeks. So just to get back into that rhythm, just to get back into getting runs and spending time in the field and coming in day after day for 4-5 days is a bit of a challenge physically as well.”.

Emotional Celebration and Physical Challenges

Rahul’s 100 off 197 balls, decorated with 12 boundaries, was his first home century since 2016 and only the second on Indian soil. His celebration after reaching the milestone carried a personal touch, as it was dedicated to his daughter.

The batter also admitted that the physical demands of the match were intense, particularly given his recent return to competitive cricket. With this knock, Rahul not only made history but also reaffirmed his crucial role in India’s Test setup, blending resilience, skill, and emotional depth in a memorable performance.

He further added :

“The conditions here have been really, really challenging physically. The game that I played last week was even worse. So yeah, physically it’s been really challenging. But yeah, it’s good to be out in the middle, and it was good for me to have that game and get some miles in me. (About the celebration) It was for my daughter.”
