John Campbell Faces Suspension Over Super50 Final Incident

West Indies opener John Campbell reached his maiden Test century with a towering six off Ravindra Jadeja on Day 4 of the second Test against India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, October 13. The left-handed batter crafted a resilient innings, reaching 100 in 174 balls, including three sixes and nine boundaries.

The milestone came in the 58th over of West Indies’ second innings. Jadeja delivered a faster ball outside off, and Campbell went down on one knee to send it soaring over wide long-on for a massive six. The 32-year-old celebrated the achievement by raising his bat and removing his helmet, while teammates and support staff rose to applaud the landmark.

According to Cricbuzz, Campbell reached his first Test century as an opener in 48 innings, making it the second-longest wait for a maiden hundred in this role. Only Trevor Goddard, who took 58 innings, had a longer wait.

Campbell And Hope Lead West Indies Fightback vs India

Following on, John Campbell and Shai Hope displayed remarkable composure as West Indies fought back against India in the second Test. Alongside Campbell’s century, Hope reached a half-century. At the latest update, West Indies were 208/2, with Campbell on 111 from 196 balls and Hope on 75 from 136, putting together an ongoing 173-run partnership.

India, batting first, declared at 518/5 in their opening innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scoring at 175 and captain Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten on 129. Sai Sudharsan added 87 runs. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers for the tourists, taking three wickets.

In reply, West Indies were dismissed for 248 in their first innings, with Kuldeep Yadav claiming a five-wicket haul and Ravindra Jadeja taking three. India have maintained a perfect home record against the West Indies since the 1994/95 series. Led by Shubman Gill, they won the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs to lead the five-match series 1-0.
