India Clinch 2-0 Series Sweep, Secures Third Spot In WTC Standings

The Indian cricket team maintained its stronghold at home by comfortably securing a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies. Despite the visitors putting up a stronger-than-expected challenge in the Delhi Test, which extended to the fifth day, India emerged victorious under Shubman Gill’s leadership at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. The win elevated India’s World Test Championship (WTC) points tally to 52, raising their Points Collected percentage (PCT) to 61.90.

However, the series triumph did not translate into an improvement in India’s position in the WTC standings. With four wins from seven matches, India continues to occupy the third spot in the table. Australia leads the standings with a perfect PCT of 100, having won all three of their matches in the 2025-27 WTC cycle, followed by Sri Lanka in second place with a PCT of 66.67 from one victory in two matches. England, Bangladesh, and the West Indies trail India with PCTs of 43.33, 16.67, and 0.00, respectively, leaving the Caribbean side without any points so far in the cycle.

A Historic Fifth-Day Encounter In Delhi

The second Test marked the first occasion since 2011 that a match between India and the West Indies had stretched to the fifth day. While the concluding session lasted just over an hour, the resilience displayed by the West Indies throughout the game was notable.

The visitors’ determined resistance ensured a competitive contest, but India’s depth and experience ultimately proved decisive. The fight put up by the West Indies reminded spectators that even in a series where India is heavily favoured, challenges can emerge unexpectedly, especially on the final day of play.

KL Rahul Stars In India’s Seven-Wicket Win

India’s chase of 121 runs was efficiently managed, with opener KL Rahul playing a match-winning innings of 58 not out from 108 balls. Resuming at 63/1, India required 58 more runs, which they achieved in 35.2 overs. Rahul’s innings included a 79-run second-wicket partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 39 runs off 76 balls before falling to off-spinner Roston Chase.

Captain Shubman Gill briefly joined the crease but was dismissed cheaply, also by Chase, who finished with figures of 2/36. Rahul, alongside wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who remained unbeaten on six, steered India to a comfortable seven-wicket victory, cementing the series win and reinforcing India’s strong performance on home soil.
