[WATCH]- Shreyas Iyer Falls For 11 To Josh Hazlewood’s Short Ball In 1st ODI Against Australia

Team India suffered another setback as Shreyas Iyer was sent back for 11 by Josh Hazlewood in the first ODI against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 19. The right-hander found it difficult to handle a short delivery directed towards his ribs and ended up gloving it to wicketkeeper Josh Philippe, who took a composed catch.

The dismissal took place in the 14th over, with Hazlewood appearing to have assessed Iyer’s setup. To restrict his movement, the pacer delivered a ball on the leg stump, leaving Iyer cramped for room. He could only get a faint edge due to the extra bounce, which carried cleanly to the keeper.

Although Shreyas Iyer briefly consulted Axar Patel at the non-striker’s end, he chose not to opt for a review and walked back to the pavilion. You can watch the video here:

The Mumbai-born batter had earlier dispatched Hazlewood for a boundary in the pacer’s previous over, but the Australian quick responded brilliantly with a strong comeback. It also turned out to be the senior seamer’s last over of the spell, as the innings had been shortened due to rain interruptions.

Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood opened Australia’s wickets tally by getting Rohit Sharma to edge one to Matt Renshaw in the slips for 8, with the extra bounce once again proving decisive. Earlier, Mitchell Starc had dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck as the star batter fell to a loose drive outside off, with Cooper Connolly pulling off a stunning catch at backward point.

Shubman Gill became the third batter to depart as the Indian skipper was caught down the leg side off Nathan Ellis. After the most recent rain interruption, India were reeling at 52/4 in 16.4 overs.
