Former India head coach Ravi Shastri issued a warning to Australia about Abhishek Sharma, suggesting that the youngster could be dangerous if he stays at the crease for long in the upcoming T20I series. The world’s top two T20I teams are set to clash in a five-match series beginning in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29.
Abhishek enters the series in outstanding form, having been named Player of the Tournament in India’s recent 2025 Asia Cup victory. Despite challenging batting conditions in the UAE, the 25-year-old amassed 314 runs in seven matches, averaging nearly 45 with a blistering strike rate of 200.
Speaking to Fox Cricket ahead of the series, Shastri shared what Australian fans and players should expect from the explosive Indian batter.
“He’s a gun T20 player. If he’s in for a while, there’s guaranteed entertainment. Irrespective of whether you’re Australian or Indian, you’ll enjoy it. He has the ability to take the game away from you. You don’t want him out there too long because he can create chaos.”

Ravi Shastri feels that Abhishek Sharma’s fearless approach from the very first ball makes him one of the most dangerous players in the T20 format. The young opener has been exceptional in T20Is, amassing 849 runs in 24 matches at an average of nearly 37 and an impressive strike rate of 196.07. Abhishek currently holds the top spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
“His preparation, his belief in his own ability, the range of shots that he has, and then the mindset to go out there and back himself from ball one. From the get-go, he’ll go after the bowling.
