Team India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed confidence that he is putting in consistent effort to regain his form ahead of the much-awaited T20I series against Australia. The star batter has been struggling, going 14 innings without a fifty and enduring a disappointing 2025 Asia Cup campaign in the UAE.
Once the top-ranked T20I batter, Suryakumar currently averages just 11.11 in 11 innings this year, marking a rare rough patch in his career. Despite the slump, head coach Gautam Gambhir has backed him publicly, while Suryakumar himself remains optimistic that his hard work will soon translate into runs.
“I feel like I have been working really hard, before also I was doing it, it is not that I was not working hard. I’ve had a few good sessions back home, good 2-3 sessions here, so I am in a good space, I think that is really important. Runs, it will come eventually, but working hard towards a team goal, that’s more important,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I (via RevSportz).
Suryakumar Confident India’s Combination Will Work In Australia
Beyond the pressure of rediscovering his batting form, the upcoming series poses one of Suryakumar Yadav’s toughest tests as captain. It will be only his second opportunity to lead Team India outside the subcontinent as a full-time skipper.
However, Suryakumar believes the team doesn’t need to make major changes to their existing combination to adapt to the Australian conditions.
“I don’t think that our combination changes too much with conditions. If you see, when we played in South Africa, over there we played one fast bowler, one all-rounder, and three spinners. Conditions are similar over here, some bouncy tracks,” he said.
Suryakumar Yadav previously guided India to an impressive 3-1 series victory in South Africa in 2024, with spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi emerging as key wicket-takers in the triumph.
