Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was visibly emotional after India’s victory over Australia in the Women’s 2025 World Cup semifinal at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. Watching from the dugout, the veteran cricketer couldn’t hold back her tears as the hosts defeated the defending champions in dominant style. Chasing a challenging target of 339, India lost Shafali Verma early for 10 and Smriti Mandhana for 24.

However, Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet (89) steadied the innings with a remarkable 167-run partnership that turned the match in India’s favour. Amanjot Kaur sealed the win with a boundary, giving India a memorable five-wicket victory, supported by vital cameos from Deepti Sharma (24 off 17) and Richa Ghosh (26 off 16).

Rodrigues remained unbeaten on 127, earning her the well-deserved Player of the Match award for her match-winning knock. You can watch the video here:

“I’m Speechless, Don’t Know How To Express Myself” — Harmanpreet Kaur

During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed that the team had been striving for a long time to cross the finishing line in such crucial games and shared her joy at finally achieving that goal.

“Very proud. I don’t have words how to express myself. Feeling great, this time we have crossed that line which we have been working towards for so many years,” she remarked.

When questioned about her conversation with coach Amol Muzumdar following the victory, Harmanpreet responded:

“We spoke to each other that we have done this because we have been working so hard. Both of us are really proud of this team. We have that trust that any player can win any match from any situation. Made few mistakes but we have been learning from our mistakes. Today, wanted everything to go in our favor in every situation, and kept telling ourselves to be there for the team, and that worked for us.”
