Rishabh Pant is all set to make his long-awaited return to international cricket. The explosive wicketkeeper-batter, who had been out of action due to a foot fracture sustained in England, has now fully recovered from the injury that kept him away from the game for several months. Pant picked up the injury during the Manchester Test against England while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes.
Unfortunately, the ball ricocheted onto his right foot, resulting in a fracture. Despite the pain, Pant showcased his trademark grit and fighting spirit by returning to the crease after briefly retiring hurt, a testament to his resilience and passion for the game. The injury had ruled him out of action since the Test match held from July 23 to 27.
However, after an extended recovery and rehabilitation phase, Pant finally made his comeback this week, featuring in an unofficial Test against South Africa A at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru—his first competitive appearance in months.
Rishabh Pant Relieved After Smooth Recovery Process
Speaking on the sidelines of the match, Rishabh Pant reflected on his recovery journey, sharing his relief and satisfaction that the healing process had gone smoothly and without major setbacks.
“The first part of the process was healing. For the first six weeks, you have to let the fracture heal properly and then report to the CoE. Thankfully, the healing went well,” Pant said in a BCCI video.
“I started my rehab gradually. In the early days, there was a lot of physiotherapy and careful monitoring. Once I regained some mobility, I began focusing on building strength, which marked the start of the second phase. Right now, I’m happy to say that I’m fully recovered, and I owe a big thanks to the CoE staff for helping me through it,” he added.

Calling it one of the most challenging periods of his career, Pant admitted that maintaining mental strength during his recovery was just as tough as overcoming the physical pain.
“Being positive is really a mindset thing. During an injury, it’s easy to lose motivation. Your energy levels drop, and frustration builds up. But if you can find small things that make you feel good, it’s important to hold onto them, especially when you’re going through that period,” he concluded.
