Richa Ghosh Joins Elite Club With Dottin And Lee After Power-Packed World Cup Final

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh created history during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final against South Africa, equaling a long-standing record for most sixes in a single edition of the tournament. With her quickfire 34 off 24 balls, which included three fours and two sixes, Richa matched West Indies’ Deandra Dottin and South Africa’s Lizelle Lee, each of whom hit 12 sixes in a single edition.

Dottin achieved the feat in 2013, while Lee did so in 2017. Richa’s aggressive batting has been a hallmark of her debut tournament, where she has made 235 runs in eight innings at an average of 39.16 and a strike rate above 133. Her best knock, a brilliant 94 against South Africa earlier in the tournament, showcased her ability to handle pressure with poise and power.,

A Dominant Force In The Death Overs

One of the standout aspects of Richa Ghosh’s campaign has been her dominance in the final ten overs. Between overs 41 and 50, she has been the most effective batter in the entire competition, scoring 185 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 165.17. Her ability to finish strongly and accelerate the scoring rate in the death overs has been a game-changer for India throughout the tournament.

Despite being one of the youngest players in the squad, Richa’s fearless approach has added depth and balance to India’s middle order, turning potential tight finishes into commanding totals. Her explosive hitting has not only earned her records but also immense admiration from cricket fans and analysts worldwide, marking her as one of India’s most promising young stars in women’s cricket.

India’s Commanding Total In The Final

In the final against South Africa, India put on a strong batting display after being asked to bat first. The openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, laid a solid foundation with a 100-run stand. Mandhana scored 45 off 58 balls with eight fours, while Shafali dominated with 87 off 78, including seven boundaries and two sixes.

Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with 24, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 20 as India crossed the 200-run mark comfortably. Deepti Sharma’s composed 58 off 58 balls, supported by Richa Ghosh’s brisk 34, gave India the final push to reach 298/7 in 50 overs. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 58. Richa’s impactful cameo not only lifted India’s total but also sealed her place in the record books as one of the most explosive finishers in World Cup history.
