Rohit Sharma was visibly emotional after the Indian women’s team secured the 2025 World Cup crown with a dominant victory over South Africa at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. The right-hander’s reaction was caught on camera moments after the fall of South Africa’s final wicket.

Harmanpreet Kaur and her team etched their names in history by becoming the first Indian women’s side to win the 50-over World Cup. After defeating Australia by five wickets in the semifinal, India outclassed South Africa by 52 runs in the final. Chasing 299 for victory, the Proteas crumbled under pressure as Deepti Sharma shone with a five-wicket haul.

Rohit Sharma, known for his remarkable record as a white-ball captain, ended India’s decade-long ICC title drought by guiding the Men in Blue to T20 World Cup glory last year. The 38-year-old further cemented his legacy by leading the team to Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the UAE.

“Truly Thankful For The Incredible Support”- India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur

During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet praised the fans and her teammates for maintaining a positive mindset even when results didn’t favor them in the group stage, emphasizing that their strong self-belief helped them bounce back. The skipper stated:

“I am so grateful for this crowd, they have been really amazing. Thank you for being with us in all our ups and downs. Last game also, we spoke that self-belief was there, even though we lost three back-to-back games, we knew we had something special to turn things around. They stayed positive, we knew what we had to do, everyone was so involved, they were there day and night and this team deserves to be there.”

The 104-run opening stand between Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana laid a solid foundation for India’s total of 298. Deepti Sharma contributed a run-a-ball 58 before shining with the ball to claim five wickets. Despite a valiant century (101) from Laura Wolvaardt, the South African captain received little support from her teammates.
