Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of five players ahead of the 2026 auction, as reported by Cricbuzz on Monday, November 3. The governing council has confirmed that teams can exercise either direct retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) guidelines, each franchise can retain up to three capped Indian players and two overseas players. If a team chooses to retain all five players, at least one must be an uncapped player, the report mentioned. Each team has been allotted a purse of ₹15 crore to rebuild its squad for the 2026 season.
Players will be categorized under price slabs of ₹3.5 crore, ₹2.5 crore, ₹1.75 crore, ₹1 crore, and ₹50 lakh for uncapped players, respectively. If a team decides to retain all five players, ₹9.25 crore will be deducted from its total purse, leaving ₹5.75 crore available for the WPL 2026 auction.
The franchises have until November 5 to submit their retention lists. Player registrations will close on November 18, and the final list of registered players is expected to be released on November 20. The WPL 2026 auction is tentatively scheduled for the last week of November.
