The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly engaged in advanced trade discussions involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson ahead of the IPL 2026 retention deadline. According to a report by Cricbuzz, both players fall under the same salary bracket of INR 18 crore, making the deal financially feasible for both franchises.

However, the Royals have demanded an additional player, Dewald Brevis, as part of the trade package. Brevis, who was signed by CSK mid-season in IPL 2025, showcased exceptional form by scoring 225 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 180, including two fifties. His impressive performance earned him a spot in South Africa’s white-ball team and made him the most expensive player in the SA20 auction, where Pretoria Capitals bought him for R16.5 million. CSK, however, are unwilling to part ways with Brevis, leaving the final decision in RR’s hands.

Jadeja’s Legacy And Samson’s Contribution To Their Franchises

Ravindra Jadeja has been a cornerstone of CSK’s success over the years, playing a crucial role with both bat and ball. In 254 IPL matches, Jadeja has scored 3260 runs and taken 170 wickets. In the 2025 season, he made 301 runs in 14 innings, including two fifties, and picked up 10 wickets at an economy of 8.56. His all-round abilities have made him one of CSK’s most dependable players.

Similarly, Sanju Samson has been the face of RR for a long time, contributing consistently as a top-order batter and captain. In 177 IPL matches, he has scored 4704 runs with three centuries and 26 half-centuries. However, injuries limited his participation in IPL 2025 to just nine games, during which he scored 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39, including one fifty. He also missed a few matches, during which Riyan Parag led the side.

Franchise Changes And Future Retention Plans

The Rajasthan Royals are currently undergoing significant structural changes, having parted ways with head coach Rahul Dravid, CEO Jake Lush McCrum, and several members of their coaching staff ahead of the 2026 auction. This transition could influence their trade and retention strategy, including their stance on the Jadeja-Samson deal.

Meanwhile, the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) are expected to retain South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen and Indian batter Ishan Kishan for the upcoming season. Klaasen, who joined SRH in 2023, has accumulated 1,414 runs in 42 matches at a strike rate of 172.70, while Kishan scored 354 runs in 13 innings last season. The franchise reportedly has no interest in acquiring Sanju Samson, suggesting that the CSK-RR trade could significantly reshape both teams’ lineups ahead of IPL 2026.
