Team India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is expected to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled to begin in Ranchi on November 30. According to a report by The Indian Express, the 30-year-old is still recuperating from the injury he picked up during the third ODI against Australia on October 25.

For those unaware, Iyer was hospitalized in Sydney after suffering a blunt abdominal injury while fielding in that match. He was later discharged on November 1 but continues to work on his recovery.

Sources close to the development informed The Indian Express that the batter will need additional time to regain full match fitness before making his return to international cricket.

“He will take more time to be fully match fit, and the board and selection committee doesn’t want to rush after his injury. He is doubtful for the South Africa ODI series.”

The report further revealed that Iyer’s oxygen levels had fallen to 50 for nearly ten minutes, leaving him unable to stand properly during that period.

BCCI Issues Fresh Update On Shreyas Iyer’s Injury Status

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that Shreyas Iyer’s condition remains stable and that he is recovering well. The statement also mentioned that the batter had suffered internal bleeding, which was promptly detected and treated. It further read:

“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same.”

“He is stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are satisfied with his progress. Iyer has been discharged and will remain in Sydney for follow-up consultations before returning to India once fit to travel,” the statement added.
