IPL franchises are gearing up to finalize their list of retained players ahead of the mini-auction. Leading up to retention day, discussions have been rife about which star players should stay or be released, alongside some notable trades. Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has moved from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to Mumbai Indians (MI) for a fee of ₹2 crore.

Similarly, West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford has been traded from Gujarat Titans (GT) to MI for ₹2.6 crore. According to ESPNcricinfo, keeper-batter Sanju Samson has been swapped to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange for all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

Meanwhile, Arjun Tendulkar has joined LSG from MI for ₹30 lakh. Reports also suggest that veteran Indian pacer Mohammad Shami, 35, is likely to move from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to LSG in an all-cash deal valued at ₹10 crore.

All 10 IPL franchises must finalize their retained players before the 2026 auction by Saturday, November 15. The official list is expected to be released starting at 5 PM IST.

As the upcoming auction will be a mini-auction, franchises can retain any number of players they choose. However, each team’s squad must not exceed the maximum limit of 25 players. Additionally, the total budget (purse) for each franchise in IPL 2026 is expected to be around ₹120 crore.

The IPL 2026 retentions will be broadcast live on the Star Sports network, including Star Sports 2, Star Sports 2 (Hindi), Star Sports 2 (Tamil), Star Sports 2 (Telugu), and Star Sports 2 (Malayalam). Fans can also stream the event live on the JioCinema app and website. The coverage will kick off at 5:00 PM IST.

IPL 2026 Auction: Date Confirmed?

The official date for the IPL 2026 mini-auction has not been announced yet. However, ESPNcricinfo reports that it is expected to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16. For context, the 2024 auction took place in Dubai, while the two-day mega-auction for 2025 was conducted in Jeddah in November 2024.

KKR have appointed former New Zealand captain Tim Southee as their bowling coach for IPL 2026, joining head coach Abhishek Nayar and assistant Shane Watson. LSG have named former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody as their global director of cricket, while Justin Langer remains head coach and Kane Williamson joins as strategic advisor.
