The transition of KL Rahul to the Delhi Capitals franchise has been a transformative factor, allowing him to exhibit a new aspect of his batting talent. The player was responsible for 539 runs in the year of 2025 with a terrific strike rate and was the main component of the team.

While everyone was speaking about him as the future captain, Rahul turned down the opportunity and instead decided to concentrate on his batting. This step freed him from the responsibilities of captaincy and allowed him to play naturally again.

In the regime of Axar Patel, Rahul has been excelling, and his contributions to the Delhi Capitals’ campaign have been substantial. The combination of his experience and skill has been a significant advantage, making him a prime player for the squad.

KL Rahul explains why he plays just as a specialist for the Delhi Capitals:

Rahul, without naming the infamous episode with LSG team owner Sanjeev Goenka, hinted at it, saying that the owners should not be the ones questioning the on-field tactical and strategic applications.

“Captaincy in IPL feels like you are being questioned constantly, why opposition scored 200 and you scored 120, why they are getting more spin. Some of these questions you are never asked throughout the year, because the coaches know about this,” KL Rahul said in a conversation alongside Jatin Sapru on Humans of Bombay.

Delhi Capitals have reaffirmed their trust in KL Rahul for the 2026 season, probably keeping him as a pure batsman and sometimes as a keeper. He is expected to also do great in 2026 like he did in 2025 when he collected 539 runs with an awesome strike rate.

With such a seasoned player like Rahul in the squad, DC will surely have an edge in their fight for the playoffs. The last season ended with them being just one step away from the top four as they secured the fifth position in the points table.
