IND vs SA: Kuldeep Yadav Backs Captain Rishabh Pant, Who Is Under Fire For The Guwahati Test Leadership

Rishabh Pant is the captain of India’s team for the very first time in a Test match. However, it is not all smooth sailing. His on-field choices have come under scrutiny from every angle, and the fans are keeping a close eye on him to find out whether he is making the right calls.

Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium has been Day 2’s location and what the South African batsmen have exhibited is nothing short of amazing. The two batters, namely Senuran Muthuswamy and Marco Jansen, are absolutely tearing it apart and pushing their team’s total to almost 489 runs.

Rishabh Pant was criticized for his defensive captaincy:

But the plot twist comes in here. Kuldeep Yadav, the great wrist spinner of India, jumps in the defense of Rishabh Pant. He feels he does the right thing even when others criticize him.

South Africa gradually recovered from 246/6 by posting a mammoth total of 489, which repeatedly drew the ire of many commentators regarding his field placements, as the newly arrived batsmen were given the chance to get well in. On the contrary, Kuldeep thought, the team might not go for the overattack and give away runs. He expressed that he was happy with the field that was made available to him.

“Of course, it’s always good to have an attacking mindset, but you also have to understand how the wicket is playing. You can’t attack all the time and leak runs. I thought our field placements were very good. For me personally, if I hit the right areas, then I naturally create pressure. I was happy with my field settings and mindset. You need to be attacking, but also aware of who is batting, the match situation, and the score on the board. They reached almost 500,” said Kuldeep in post-match press conference.
