On Day 4 of the second Test against India at Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, November 25, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma fell victim to Washington Sundar’s leg-slip tactic. The right-handed batter managed just three runs from 11 balls in the second innings as India mounted a strong fightback.

Bavuma came in after Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Aiden Markram with a brilliant delivery midway through the session. The middle-order batter appeared tentative early on, taking a couple of quick singles off Tristan Stubbs and nearly risking a run-out.

Sensing the turn and bounce from the spinners, India applied pressure on the Proteas’ batters. With several close-in fielders set for Bavuma, the hosts targeted their third wicket of the session following the dismissals of the openers.

In the 32nd over, Washington Sundar created a golden opportunity when Bavuma attempted to fend off a sharply turning delivery. The ball took an inside edge off his pads and flew toward short leg. Sai Sudharsan got a hand to it, but the ball spilled, and Nitish Kumar Reddy at leg slip couldn’t react in time.

On the very next ball, Temba Bavuma tried to guide another turning delivery, but mistimed it on the front foot, playing far from his body. The ball bounced and turned sharply outside the leg stump, glanced off his glove, and flew straight to leg slip, giving Sundar his first wicket of the series. You can watch the video here:

While India looked to make the most of the conditions in the first session on Day 4, South Africa enjoy the comfort of a huge first-innings lead. At the time of writing, the hosts are 89-3 ahead of the Tea Break, holding a lead of 377.

Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi are at the crease, with the visitors aiming to finish the session on a positive note.
