What a shocking turn of events for cricket lovers in Bengaluru! Yet again, the famous M Chinnaswamy Stadium is not part of the 2026 T20 World Cup lineup. This extraordinary venue, which is one of the most recognized cricket grounds in India, continues to lose the opportunity to host major ICC events.
Though disappointing for a ground that has such a rich history and vibrant fans, the decision still stands. The International Cricket Council has just revealed the entire schedule, which will see matches taking place in other Indian cities and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
The biggest thrill? India is the defending world champion! The victorious team is back to create cricket history by winning the trophy two times in a row—something that has not been done by any other team before. Jay Shah, the chairman of ICC, announced this grand tournament in Mumbai. It will be an epic one. The conflict of India’s ambition for the double title will be very interesting to watch, but it will not be easy, as they will meet the world’s strongest rivals.
Chinnaswamy Stadium has once again been excluded from a major ICC event
The situation concerning Bengaluru’s cricket stadium was entirely transformed by the tragedy. After winning the IPL championship in 2025, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s celebration parade outside the stadium turned out to be disastrous. The crushing of the crowd resulted in the deaths of 11 people, and almost 50 were injured—an incident that grieved the whole nation.
The incident revealed serious weaknesses in crowd control and stadium management, and even the venue’s readiness for large international events was being questioned. Thus, this tragedy marked the end of the stadium that was about to be turned into an international cricket venue.
And here is the consequence: the T20 World Cup 2026 has been denied to Bengaluru. The ICC and BCCI, instead, picked New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai as the other five Indian cities, plus two venues in Sri Lanka. The decision indicates that the authorities do not want to take the risk of another tragedy happening again until the major safety improvements are made.
The officials assure that the big tournaments would be back in Bengaluru, but only upon the completion of the new safety measures and thorough inspections. The stadium’s redemption is completely dependent on the demonstration that it is capable of safeguarding its audience.
