Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi has emerged as one of the standout performers in domestic cricket, especially with his impressive run in the 2025–26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The right-arm pacer has delivered consistent spells, helping J&K secure three wins in five matches. With 11 wickets at an average of 13.54, a strike rate of 10.27, and an economy of 7.91, he has become the leading wicket-taker for his side.
His best effort of 4/16 against Bihar highlighted his ability to make early breakthroughs and maintain pressure. As the IPL 2026 auction approaches, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi, Nabi is expected to be on the radar of several teams looking to strengthen their Indian fast-bowling lineup. Here are three franchises that should strongly consider targeting the 29-year-old pacer.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi Capitals appear to be in need of a reliable Indian seamer after releasing Mohit Sharma, who recently retired from professional cricket. The side currently depends on Mukesh Kumar and T. Natarajan as their primary Indian pacers, but both have had mixed outings. While Mukesh managed 12 wickets in IPL 2025, his high economy of 10.32 remains a concern, and his recent SMAT performances of 1/41 and 0/53 show he is struggling for rhythm.
Natarajan, returning from an injury-filled season where he bowled only three overs, has shown improvement in SMAT but still lacks full match fitness. With the franchise depending heavily on overseas pace power through Mitchell Starc and Dushmantha Chameera, they require a consistent domestic bowler to support the attack. Auqib Nabi’s ability to swing the new ball and build pressure makes him a valuable addition for DC, potentially forming a strong pairing with Starc at the top.
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
SunRisers Hyderabad also find themselves short on Indian seam options after trading Mohammad Shami and releasing Simarjeet Singh. Although the team has strong overseas pacers like Pat Cummins, Brydon Carse, and Eshan Malinga, the limited overseas slots in the playing XI mean they need dependable Indian backups.
Harshal Patel is mainly used at the death, while Jaydev Unadkat handles middle overs, leaving a gap for a new-ball specialist. Auqib Nabi, with his consistent domestic form and wicket-taking ability, perfectly fits this requirement. His presence would add balance to SRH’s attack and provide crucial depth in the powerplay.
Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rajasthan Royals, who finished ninth in IPL 2025, are looking to rebuild their squad with several significant changes, including the arrival of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. While their overseas pace lineup featuring Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, and Kwena Maphaka is strong, their Indian fast-bowling unit lacks consistency.
Sandeep Sharma has been in good domestic rhythm, but Tushar Deshpande and Yudhvir Singh Charak struggled with expensive spells in the previous IPL season. Auqib Nabi’s inclusion would strengthen RR’s new-ball attack, giving them a reliable Indian option capable of delivering breakthroughs and maintaining control. His ability to complement Archer early on makes him a smart pick for the franchise heading into the 2026 season.
