NPL 2025: Lumbini Lions Defeated Janakpur Bolts By 4 Wickets

Lumbini Lions, with a superb four-wicket win against Janakpur Bolts, made sure of their entry into the playoffs of Nepal Premier League 2025. The victory, however, was not a walk in the park for Lumbini’s batsmen showed their quality under pressure and they managed to bring down the total set by Janakpur. Thus, they not only progressed in the tournament rankings but also kept their chances of winning the league alive.

133 runs set by Janakpur Bolts did not seem to be too much as Lumbini`s brave batting side finished the match in just 19.1 overs, giving away six wickets in the process.

The Lumbini Lions were on a mission to playoffs as they chased down 133 runs in just 19.1 overs, losing six wickets and getting a four-wicket victory over janakpur bolts. The captain, Rohit Paudel, was the leading scorer with 34 runs off 32 balls and he was named the player of the match and D’Arcy Short (30 off 24) and JJ Smith (21 off 19) went on to be invaluable in the success of the team. 

The batting of Janakpur failed to match the runs, as they only managed seven runs short with 132 runs scored in their full twenty overs; Sangeeth Cooray was the top scorer with 45 runs off 38 balls. Cooray was also dangerous with the ball, as he took three wickets for Lumbini, while Mayan Yadav and Sanjay Krishnamurti took 2 and 1 wickets, respectively. In the bowling department for Lumbini, the pair of Rohit Paudel and Sher Malla accounted for 2 of the 4 wickets, while JJ Smith and Ruben Trumpelmann shared the remaining two between them.

Lumbini’s win elevates them to the 4th spot on the table with 8 points from 7 games, guaranteeing their spot in playoffs. On the other hand, Janakpur Bolts are out of the tournament after losing five of their six games and only managing to get 2 points. The remaining teams that made it to the playoffs are Sudurpaschim Royals, Kathmandu Gorkhas, and Biratnagar Kings.
