On December 6, 2025, Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma etched his name into the history books by becoming the first Indian batter ever to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket in a single calendar year.

His explosive form continued during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025–26, where, in a match against Services, he smashed a quickfire 62 off just 34 balls — laced with 8 fours and 3 sixes — sealing the record.

This achievement underscores his dominance in the shortest format and highlights a year of consistent power-hitting.

A Season of Power and Consistency

Abhishek’s 2025 in T20 cricket hasn’t just been about sixes. Over the course of the year, he piled up 1,499 runs at an average of 42.82 and a strike rate of 204.22, including three centuries and nine half-centuries.

In SMAT 2025–26, he continued to shine — accumulating 304 runs in six matches, with an astonishing strike rate near 250, including a century and two fifties.

This blend of volume and velocity has made him one of the most dangerous batsmen in Indian domestic T20 cricket this year.

A standout performance came earlier in the tournament: against Bengal, Abhishek smashed a brutal 148 off just 52 balls, featuring a jaw-dropping 16 sixes. That knock helped Punjab post a mammoth 310/5 and comfortably beat Bengal by 112 runs.

Such performances have not only added to his six-hitting count but reinforced his reputation as a destructive opener, capable of redefining T20 batting standards.

What This Means for Indian Cricket & T20 Landscape

Abhishek Sharma’s 100-plus sixes in a year is significant for multiple reasons:

•It demonstrates how the new generation of Indian T20 batters is pushing the boundaries of strike rate and aggressive batting. Abhishek’s consistency — across leagues, formats, and tournaments — makes him a valuable asset not just for domestic sides, but potentially for the national team.

•Given that his achievement arrived during one of India’s premier domestic tournaments, it highlights the growing competitiveness and batting depth in Indian domestic cricket.

•For fans and selectors alike, Abhishek’s form throws up exciting possibilities: as T20 cricket continues to evolve toward shorter formats and high scoring, players like him could shape India’s white-ball approach in years to come.

Abhishek Sharma’s record isn’t just personal glory — it may very well mark the turning point for aggressive, power-hitting batting across Indian cricket.
