South Africa team captain Aiden Markram showed calm faith when the team was getting ready for the first T20I match in Cuttack. Even though India’s main players—Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli—were missing, Markram still recognized the home team as a very hard one to beat. His behavior was a mix of giving confidence to South Africa’s potential and, at the same time, respecting India’s power as a cricket country.
Ever since losing the finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup, South Africa has been finding it hard to be consistent on the international scene. The team has gone through a hard time, losing bilateral series against the West Indies, India, Australia, and Pakistan. All these setbacks have shaken their confidence, and they are now looking at the series with India as a chance not only to start afresh but also to establish their competitiveness.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not part of the T20I side”- Aiden Markram

The South African captain Aiden Markram appeared to be very relaxed but confident before the first T20I match in Cuttack. He realized that India is still a tough competitor, even though Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are no longer in the mix.
“It’s great that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not part of the T20I side, but still it’s a great Indian team. No extra plans, I guess. It’s T20 cricket, it’s an entertaining format, and that’s the brand we want to play. We want guys to free themselves up, enjoy the game, and let their best skills be on show,” Markram said ahead of the series opener in the pre-match presser.
“The younger guys coming through naturally are playing that way because that’s entertainment but it’s also opportunities for them to get into leagues and play T20 cricket for their country. They end up doing some really cool things,” Markram said.
