India’s rising U19 batting star Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a stunning blend of humour and aggression during the Asia Cup match against the UAE in Dubai. In the 32nd over, as he was nearing his century, UAE wicketkeeper Saleh Amin attempted to unsettle him with a bit of sledging.
But the 14-year-old prodigy had a quick and witty comeback. Instead of getting rattled, Suryavanshi shot back with the now-viral line “Tere saath selfie loon?”—a response that instantly shut down the keeper’s attempt to break his focus. At that moment, left-arm spinner Uddish Suri was bowling, and Suryavanshi, already well-set in the 90s, showed he was not only technically equipped but mentally sharp enough to handle pressure with style.
Record-Breaking Power-Hitting
Once he crossed his half-century—reached in just 30 balls—Suryavanshi shifted into full destructive mode. His innings flowed from controlled aggression to absolute dominance as he began dismantling the UAE bowlers. His boundary-hitting was the highlight of the match, peppering the field with nine fours and a staggering 14 sixes. This remarkable six-hitting spree shattered the previous U19 Asia Cup record of 10 sixes set by Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli in 2017.
Rising through the Rajasthan Royals system, Suryavanshi showed why he is considered one of India’s most exciting young talents. His century arrived in just 56 deliveries, and he continued to accelerate, reaching 150 off only 84 balls. Every phase of his innings demonstrated a rare combination of composure and fearless stroke-making.
A Knock For The History Books
Vaibhav Suryavanshi concluded his power-packed innings with a breathtaking 171 off 95 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 180 before being run out. This monumental effort is now the second-highest score by an Indian in Youth ODIs, narrowly missing the top spot held by Ambati Rayudu, who scored 177* against England U19 in 2002.
Beyond the numbers, the innings showcased the maturity and flair of a young cricketer who seems poised for a bright international future. His astonishing performance not only lifted India in the group stage but also etched his name firmly into the record books. The blend of entertainment, power-hitting, and confidence—best captured by his cheeky reply “Tere saath selfie loon?”—turned this match into one of the standout moments of the tournament.
